Wyatt Flores Asbury Park Concert reviews
Clapton and Winwood journeys thru the past
"I found the show to have a great combination of Blind Faith and Traffic material with great musicanship from Steve Winwoods singing and keyboard playing and Claptons gutiar playing. The set list really was missing too many great songs such as Badge, Wonderful Tonight, and it would have been nice to hear his wonderful song Ride the River off of his last album, Road to Escondido. A couple of the traffic songs was missing the vital saxaphone necessary for Glad and Low Spark of High Heel Boys which got turned into a piano solo and was greatly abbreviated, not exactly inspiring to such a beautiful song. Steve Windwoods had no representation from Higher Love, Roll With It, or Arc of a Diver. While it was a good show in all, the set list for first timers like my wife, really do not get to hear some Claptons newer material and some songs simply went on for ten to fifteen minutes. My Fathers Eyes, Change the World all of the newer material was ignored. I have seen both of these artists several times individually, and while it was great to watch them perform together, I really feel their set list missed out on too many of their great songs and concentrated are too many blues numbers and Voodoo Child simply went on forever. Layla sounds better in the Orginal Version and Low Spark needed to be played less trivial, but I did love in the Prescence of the Lord, Well Alright and Glad. It is hard to find fault with these legions but just like the Steely Dan show, I get the feeling that sometimes the artists are catering more to their own inspirations and less to their audience."
